Inversion Or Turn Points
There are two Inversion Points or Turn Points located on each Frequency vs. Temperature curve. The Lower Inversion Point is located on the Curve at temperatures below the Inflection Point and the Upper Inversion Point is located on the Curve at temperatures above the Inflection Point. Both mark the point where the Frequency vs. Temperature changes from positive to negative for the Lower Inversion Point and vice-versa for the Upper Inversion Point.

The Upper Inversion Point is utilized in the design of crystal for OCXO applications. Precise angle selection will place the Upper Inversion Point at the nominal oven operating temperature resulting in a zero temperature gradient while minimizing the gradient over a narrow operating temperature range typically +/- 5 C degrees.
